TU Law announces dean promotions in professional development and experiential learning

The University of Tulsa College of Law names Christy Caves (BA ’02, JD ’05) (left) Associate Dean and Director of Professional Development, and Lauren Donald (JD ’07) (right) Assistant Dean for Experiential Learning and Director of Externships.

Christy Caves joined The University of Tulsa College of Law in April 2010 and previously served as the Associate Director of Professional Development and Assistant Dean and Director of Experiential Learning.

Dean Caves was a scholar athlete at The University of Tulsa, graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2002. She returned to TU and received her Juris Doctor in 2005. Following law school, Dean Caves worked in Tulsa as a litigation associate for Atkinson Haskins, focusing primarily on medical malpractice and insurance defense.

Prior to joining TU Law, Dean Caves also managed her own law firm, Swift & Watkins, PLLC, where she provided clients with representation in various litigation matters. As the Externship Director, she was responsible for the development, administration, and management of the law school’s externship program.

In the Professional Development Office, Dean Caves assists with all professional development programs and provides career services support for students and alumni, as well as coordinates with potential employers. She brings strong local ties and regional market knowledge to TU Law.

Dean Caves is an active member of the Oklahoma Bar Association, the Tulsa County Bar Association and NALP, the Association for Legal Career Professionals.

Lauren Donald joined The University of Tulsa College of Law in January 2013 as the Associate Director of Professional Development. In August 2015, she transitioned into her new role as Assistant Dean for Experiential Learning and Director of Externships. The externship program allows students the opportunity to gain academic credit for in-the-field, practical experience in the practice of law.

Dean Donald is licensed to practice law in Oklahoma. After graduating from TU Law, she worked in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as an associate for Gibbs Armstrong Borochoff Mullican & Hart, PC. Her practice focused primarily on transportation defense at both the state and federal level with emphasis in corporate and railroad defense litigation, as well as environmental, regulatory and compliance areas.

Dean Donald is active with the OBA and the Tulsa County Bar Association. She served from 2013-2015 as the co-chair for the TCBA Mentoring Committee. Additionally, Dean Donald is an active member of NALP, the Association for Legal Career Professionals, and serves on the long range planning committee for the NALP Small and Solo CSO Section. She presented at NALP’s Annual Education Conference in 2014 in Seattle, Washington, and in 2015 in Chicago, Illinois.
