On December 15, 2015, Teresia Mungai became a United States citizen, thanks to the work of two TU College of Law programs, the Immigrant Rights Project (IRP) and the Tulsa Immigrant Resource Network (TIRN), TU Law’s post-graduate program that complements the work of the IRP.
Students and fellows began working with Ms. Mungai in 2008 and successfully helped her obtain an immigrant visa under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Soon after, she obtained her United States citizenship.
In 2014, TIRN fellows represented Ms. Mungai in her application for US citizenship. Excitingly, Ms. Mungai took her citizenship oath on December 15, 2015, in Oklahoma City. The road has been long, but Ms. Mungai is very excited about her future and very thankful for the services of these two programs.
