Outstanding TU Law professors, students, and alumni are honored during the month of April

Faculty-Awards-Named

Three outstanding TU Law professors have been honored during the month of April for their achievements and dedication to legal education. Professor Elizabeth McCormick was named a 2016 Outstanding Teacher Award recipient by The University of Tulsa, and Professors Johnny Parker and Matt Lamkin were honored during the annual TU Law awards ceremony. This year, the ceremony took place Saturday, April 9, during Barristers’ Ball at The Mayo Hotel in downtown Tulsa.

Student & Alumni Awards

Outstanding TU Law students and recent graduates were also honored for their achievements at the annual awards ceremony during Barristers’ Ball:

Alia Heintz | Robert C. Butler, Jr., Award
Awarded to the student whose contribution to the Tulsa Law Review best perpetuates the tradition of excellence established by Robert C. Butler, Jr. Contributions that have been accepted for publication are evaluated by a three-member faculty panel.

Vanessa Lock, Mary Forsyth, William Jones | George & Jean Price Award
Awarded to the outstanding student in Legal Reasoning, Authorities, and Writing. This award was established by Stuart and Linda Mitchell Price in honor of Mr. Price’s parents.

Joseph Lang | Clinical Legal Education Association Outstanding Student Award
Awarded annually to one law student who excels in a clinical course.

Deric J. McClellan | Oklahoma Bar Association Outstanding Student Award
Awarded by the OBA to the most outstanding student from the College of Law. This award is presented at the Oklahoma Bar Association Annual Meeting each fall.

Awarded by the OBA section on Family Law to the most outstanding student from the College of Law. This award is presented at the Oklahoma Bar Association Annual Meeting each fall.

Awarded by the OBA section on Bankruptcy to the most outstanding student in bankruptcy from the College of Law.

Nancy Roxanne Gebhart | Oklahoma Bar Association Financial Institution & Commercial Law Award
Awarded by the OBA section on Financial Institutions & Commercial Law to the most outstanding student in commercial law from the College of Law

Jean Roof, Lucas R. Moyer | Oklahoma Bar Association Corporate & Business Law Award
Awarded by the OBA section on Corporate and Business Law to the most outstanding student in corporate and business law from the College of Law.

Jean Roof | Oklahoma Bar Association Litigation Award
Awarded by the OBA section on Litigation to the most outstanding student in advocacy skills from the College of Law.

Erin Leach | The Blake Champlin Environmental Law Award
The Environmental Law Section of the Oklahoma Bar Association honors the memory of Blake K. Champlin (1959-2004), TU College of Law Alumnus (JD ’86), by recognizing the most outstanding graduating senior in Environmental Law.

Michelle Kruse | Crowe & Dunlevy TU Law Minority Scholarship Award
Awarded to full-time law students who have completed one semester of study at the TU College of Law, with a preference for students from underrepresented racial or ethnic groups who have overcome an obstacle to attend law school, and who can demonstrate both financial need and academic merit.

Kelsey Duvall | Fellers Snider Diversity Scholarship Award
Awarded to the student who most contributes to advancing diversity and inclusion in the legal profession.

Awarded to graduating law students who have excelled in moot court and mock trial activities.

Matthew D. Alison | TU Environmental Law Award
Awarded by the Faculty to the graduating student who has made an outstanding contribution to environmental issues and who has a demonstrated career interest in environmental law.

Zachary B. Brandwein, Wynoka Middleton, Rita Casey Edwards, Lucas R. Moyer, Alia Heintz, Jean Roof, Joseph Lang, Megan Waterman, Deric J. McClellan | Order of the Curule Chair
Awarded to graduating students who are ranked in the top 10% of the class and who have rendered distinguished service to the University. This is the highest academic honor a student can receive.

Awarded to the graduating student who best represents a combination of scholarship and leadership.

Ruth Calvillo | Martin H. Belsky Award in Public Interest Law
Awarded to a graduating student who has demonstrated commitment in the areas of public service, diversity, religious respect, and promotion of constitutional values.

Awarded for their work on Judge Fransein’s book bench project.

Julianne Wisman | R. Steven Chandler Award
Awarded to the graduating student who by his or her very personality inspires other students to achieve more than they otherwise would, determined by vote of the student body.
