Associate Dean Limas appointed to Northwestern University’s Native American Leadership Council

Vicki Limas, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, has been appointed to the Native American Leadership Council for Northwestern University by university president Morton Schapiro.

The Native American Leadership Council for Northwestern University was established in 2015 to enhance understanding of important Native American community perspectives and to increase engagement with key Native American leaders. Council members are drawn from the Chicago area, Midwest tribes, the Cheyenne and Arapaho nations, as well as national organizations. The Council advises the President, Provost, and other faculty and administrators at Northwestern University on a range of issues related to Native American programs and communities. Council members also engage with Northwestern students, alumni, faculty, and staff during their campus visits.

The establishment of the Council is built on the work Northwestern has been doing to explore ways to increase inclusion of Native Americans at the University, to enhance teaching and research on topics related to Native Americans, and to improve and share our understanding of the relationship between Native Americans and the University since its establishment in 1851, including the role of John Evans, one of Northwestern’s founders.
