Andrea Gelfuso Goetz

AGELFUSOGOETZProfessor Andrea Gelfuso Goetz is an environmental lawyer who has represented the US Department of the Interior (DOI) and the State of Colorado. She has advised federal and state environmental regulators on all the major federal environmental statutes, including the Federal Land Policy and Management Act, the National Environmental Policy Act, the Clean Air Act, and hazardous waste laws like the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act.

As a DOI attorney who litigated cases involving oil and development on Federal lands, Gelfuso Goetz never lost a public lands case. While representing the State of Colorado Attorney General’s Office, she negotiated an air penalty for the largest molybdenum mine in the United States, successfully litigated a public trust doctrine challenge to Colorado’s air quality statute, and revised the procedural rules for Colorado’s Air Quality Control Commission to make them more “user friendly” for the general public.

In addition to teaching Natural Resources Law at TU, Professor Gelfuso Goetz is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Denver, where she teaches Sustainability and Environmental Law and Environmental Protection Law. She also taught Civic Engagement in a study abroad program in Bologna, Italy, and won a teaching award in 2010. She earned a BA in Environmental Sciences from the University of Denver in 1985, and a JD from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 1990.
