TU Law grad runs for Congress in North Carolina

TU Law grad Sam Searcy announced this week that he is running for Congress in North Carolina’s 2nd District. “Too many politicians in Washington are out of touch with the challenges that many North Carolina families face,” said Searcy in his campaign announcement. Searcy, a Democrat, is challenging third-term congressman George Holding.

In an article published by McClatchy DC Bureau, Searcy said he hoped to present a contrast with Holding who comes from a prominent banking family. Searcy grew up in a working-class family in Hendersonville, North Carolina, and graduated from Appalachian State before attending The University of Tulsa College of Law. After returning to North Carolina to work in clinical research, Searcy partnered with two others to open Greybeard Distillery and produce Bedlam Vodka.
